New Futures Nepal has identified a new project in Kalimpong, a Himalayan town situated close to the Nepalese border in Northern India. This area has a high concentration of people of Nepalese origin, many of whom have sought refuge in the area in the last decade due to the difficulties in Nepal.

Our planned project in this area will help disadvantaged children, some of whom will be homeless, orphaned or disabled. The project will build on our experience in running the Hope centre in Kathmandu.

We are delighted to announce that, with the generous financial support of Hornbeam Ivy Ltd and its employees, we are able to launch this project earlier than expected.

In the New Year trustee Andrew Small will be visiting the area to identify a suitable home to rent which will house up to twenty children. As a tribute to the substantial financial support pledged by Hornbeam Ivy Ltd, Ram plans to name the home “Hornbeam House”. It is planned for the first ten to twelve children to join the home towards the end of 2007, once sufficient staff and facilities are in place. www.newfuturesnepal.org/what-we-do/hornbeam-house

Project Clean Water

Hornbeam Ivy Limited is a successful British manufacturing company of high quality crafted taps and fittings for the bathroom and kitchen. We are delighted to report that, as part of its 21st Anniversary celebrations, the company has committed to helping New Futures Nepal both with its Kalimpong project and also with Project Clean Water.

Having provided twenty year’s worth of clean water through its taps to homes in the western world, Hornbeam Ivy now plan, with us, to provide ongoing sanitation and clean water to our new home in Kalimpong and also to a local community school. This will require the excavation of several bore holes and fitting of communal taps to enable clean running water to be brought to the community.

“From a company that started 21 years ago with an investment of only £11,000; to find ourselves now in a position to help in a small way the disadvantaged community in the foothills of the Himalayas, makes me very proud. The company’s continued success, along with the support of its growing workforce, allows us to take part in this project with pride.”
